Khalil siblings win respective squash titles

Top junior squash player Jason Ray Khalil dominated to win the final of the men’s Easter Senior squash tournament being sponsored by ANSA McAL at the Georgetown Club on Sunday.
Khalil, who normally plays with a flashy sense of style, reverted to a more reserved style, displaying his shot creativity in the process to win the final in three straight sets against former two-time junior Caribbean champion Regan Pollard.

While the first set was gruelling and lasted 12 minutes, Khalil prevailed with an 11/9 win before easily disposing of Pollard in the second set 11/1. In the third set, although Pollard seemed a bit winded, he drew from his experience and capitalised on some errors made by Khalil. However, Khalil showed some resistance to close the final set 13-11.
Meanwhile, in the final round of the round robin women’s tournament, Ashley Khalil made light work of Kathy Shuffler-Ten Pow in three straight sets to claim the women’s title. Ashley, who also played in the male category, seemed unstoppable as she showed no mercy against the former Caribbean champion in her first tournament back, winning 11/5, 11/4, 11/5.
Ashley deGroot finished second to Khalil in that category while Shuffler-Ten Pow took third.
